Zipp High Desert Speed Challenge

Feel the need for speed? Want to see Watopia’s latest? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you’re in the right place.

The Zipp High Desert Speed Challenge is on the horizon.

Choose between three different course lengths and get ready to dig deep. We’ll hook up your avatar with one of the fastest sets of wheels on the planet. Zipp engineered the 858 front and Super-9 rear disc for speed. They’ll help you go faster than you thought possible. The race against the clock goes down May 4th and 5th on the Watopia expansion. With lots of flats, this course is ideal for time trialling. If you look up from your stem long enough to take in the scenery, you’ll see dinosaur bones, old saloons, and plenty of cacti.

As a special treat, we've altered the physics of Watopia to mimic the Aguascalientes Bicentenary Velodrome in Aguascalientes, Mexico. With its smooth wooden surface and the thin air of 1887m//6,190ft above sea level, there's a reason it's the fastest track in the world. Both Vittoria Bussi's & Victor Campenaerts' records were set here, and the A & B groups will both experience these changes; the James Moore C group is stuck with old fashioned Wolverhampton, UK (aka normal Watopia) physics.

Yes. It’s a race against yourself. It’s a race against the clock. It’s a test to see where your fitness is. If you go so hard you start seeing things, you’re doing it right. Rest your mind and body for this. You’re going to have to work smart and hard. And it won’t feel good doing it. But you’ll feel great having done it.

Zipp Speed Weaponry was founded in 1988 with the sole mission of making athletes faster on their bikes. Zipp's focus is to produce the highest performing, most durable wheels and components. Over the course of the last three decades, Zipp has done exactly that, by drawing on its core competencies of design engineering, composites knowledge, computer simulation, and wind tunnel development. It is these competencies that have allowed Zipp to deliver a series of firsts in the cycling industry. From the first carbon disc wheel to the first carbon crank to the first carbon wheel to win Paris-Roubaix. These firsts have helped Zipp athletes to become champions in the toughest races in the world, on the fiercest roads in the world, from the cobbled roads of Belgium to the Queen K in Kona.
