EVENT DESCRIPTION
ABOUT THIS WORKOUT

This is the sixth workout in our group workout training plan for January's Zwift Fondo. This workout has separate groups for riders of each Fondo distance - Gran, Medio, and Bambino.

This workout consists of some 2min intervals at 95% with 1min recovery at 55% to open things up. Then we move on to a set of progressive 5min intervals around threshold with 10min steady aerobic between.

The Gran Fondo workout is:
10min progressive warm-up 50->75%
5min at 75%
10x2min 95% / 1min 55%
4x10min at 75% - 5min at 90%-95%-100%-105% (1-4)
10min cool-down

The workout structure remains the same between groups with slightly shorter blocks for the shorter events.

Because there are three separate workouts, we will use the ABC designations for the various subgroups to designate duration. But each workout is designed for people of all abilities.

A subgroup: Gran Fondo
B subgroup: Medio Fondo
C subgroup: Bambino Fondo

ABOUT THE ZWIFT FONDO TRAINING PLAN

Planning on joining the next Zwift Fondo on January 21? We've created a training plan to prepare you for the big day. We will have three workouts a week - two interval workouts tailored towards everyone of about 50min each during the week in multiple time slots and a long ride tailored to each distance of the Fondo - Gran, Medio, and Bambino - on the weekend.

ABOUT GROUP WORKOUTS

Zwifters line up in the starting area just like a normal event and once the event starts, workout mode begins. Everyone stays together regardless of power output. That's right, if you're outputting 100W and another Zwifter is outputting 400W you will stay in exactly the same position relative to each other. Only if you stop pedaling and fall 6 meters behind the group will the rubber-banding stop.

HELPFUL HINT

We highly recommend doing one of the FTP tests as the estimated FTP can be inaccurate and make the difficulty level of the workouts too high for your current fitness level.
