Chloé’s New Kit

Chloé Dygert won the Individual Time Trial at the 2019 UCI Road World Championship, and this week, we got a first look at her new Rainbow Jersey! Currently in her quarantining period before entering the US Olympic Training Center, the Team TWENTY20 rider took some time out to answer our questions on everything from new kit day to barf bins.

Zwift: Chloé, thanks for taking time to speak to us! It’s new kit day! Is new World Champion kit day even more special?

Chloé: It’s always special being able to wear the rainbow stripes. This year is my first Elite Time Trial World Championship [jersey] so it’s extra special.

Zwift: How special does it feel to be able to wear the World Champion’s Rainbow Bands?

Chloé: Honestly, if I could, I would train in all black everyday. I am honored to have earned the rainbow stripes but I don’t like being flashy or showing off my colors when it’s not necessary.

Zwift: Will you be adding your pink flare to the bike or kit in any way?

Chloé: Pink will not be left out in any way! We just have to be respectful of UCI guidelines.

Zwift: Heading to the Olympic Training Center, what does a typical day look like? How is it different with the COVID-19 restrictions in place?

Chloé: I am currently quarantining in the “barracks” as I write this, and getting my food delivered to my door for all meals. I can leave the campus to train solo until the 20th where I will be cleared to move to my resident room. Then I’ll be able to go into the dining hall and have access to get on the velodrome. As much as I can complain about living the “dorm life” it forces me to rest and recover, which is perfect for when I’m doing the high intensity track work!

Zwift: What’s the best Olympic Training Center perk?

Chloé: Flower’s cooking, specifically her Pad Thai.

Zwift: You’ve been doing TT efforts on Zwift – What’s the biggest difference between road and Zwift TT efforts?

Chloé: Power output on the trainer compared to the road is always different but it’s quality no matter what.

Zwift: Do you think being an early adopter of training on Zwift, and having a coach and team doing the same has given you an advantage while everyone is trying to figure out new ways of training remotely or at home?

Chloé: Yes 100%! I may not know all the tricks to the game but I know enough to be competitive while racing. I’ve trained on the Zwift platform at home for years, it helps me tremendously with focused interval work, so nothing has really changed for me. I do feel fortunate during these times that I am very comfortable using Zwift.

Zwift: You’re known for digging deep and really pushing yourself – What non-sport activity are you super competitive about?

Chloé: I am competitive in literally everything. My battery is about to die on my iPad right now, so I’m trying to get this done before it dies! If I go grocery shopping with friend and team founder Nicola, it’s who can get up to their condo first in one trip with all of their grocery bags (we live next door to each other).

Zwift: What’s the best part and hardest part of having Kristin Armstrong as a coach? Any favorite motivational words or phrases?

Chloé: She understands me like no one else. I wouldn’t say there is a hard part. There are times we might not talk for a few days but she knows what’s best for me and I have complete trust in her. She reminds me of the phrase “Am I hurting more than anyone else?” I use that a lot, but can put my twist on it.

Rapid Fire Questions for the Fastest Girl in the World!

What fan setting do you use while Zwift Racing?

  • Highest setting!

If you could take one Zwift Power Up to a road race with you, which would it be?

  • Feather, pew! I can’t climb.

How many barf bins do you have on standby for a typical Zwift race?

  • I ALWAYS have one ready to go!

You’ve previously said Richmond is your favorite course, as you won a World Champs there. Now that you’ve won at Yorkshire as well, is Richmond still your favorite?

  • I bonked really badly in the Yorkshire World Championship road race, so it almost makes me mad when I ride the course again! Richmond will remain my favorite.

You’ve said, “before Junior World championships in 2015, I ate like six cake pops before the race and I won.” What is the perfect amount of cake pops before a Zwift race?

  • Good question…It depends on the race, [whether] it’s hilly or flat.

Who do you think would get more Ride Ons during a Zwift session, you or Kristin Armstrong?

  • Well I hope it’s me so I can sleep at night. I have to win!

If you could Zwift with anyone in the world right now, who would it be and why?

  • It would be nice to have my dad set up on Zwift. He got me into cycling and I miss riding with him.

If you could fast track to any unlock in-game, what would that be?

  • If there were pink shoes….

Thanks again to Chloé for speaking with us, and you can catch Team TWENTY20 every Thursday in the Road To Tokyo ride series on Zwift.
