EVENT DESCRIPTION
Welcome to Haute Route Watopia, the ultimate indoor 3-day challenge. To help get you ready to perform with optimal efforts, we’ve put together the ideal training plan.
About the Workouts
7 Workouts. 7 weeks. Every Tuesday and Thursday.
Complete any workout to unlock the stylish Haute Route kit on Zwift!
Each workout has a specific goal that will enable you to reach new heights during Haute Route Watopia’s three challenging stages.
Workout 1: Base Builder. This workout helps increase your endurance and recovery. Low intensity cruising builds base endurance, burns fat, and works well as active recovery.
Workout 2: Sustained Tempo. Here we’ll be boosting your sustainable power on flats, a vital component of fitness that helps you stay with fast-moving bunches without expending too much energy.
Workout 3: VO2 Booster. In this workout, we aim to help increase your peak aerobic power, aerobic efficiency, and endurance, which is obviously important for long-distance events.
Workout 4: Threshold Booster. Time to bring up your functional threshold power. This will make a huge difference to your climbing ability!
Workout 5: Up, Up, & Away. Up we go in Workout 5, getting into the demands of climbing—producing a consistent power at a lower-than-usual cadence. When climbing, you really rely on your physical output, so it’s vital to develop leg strength in training, hence the 70 rpm target cadence.
Workout 6: Power Climbs. Explosive movements at key moments in a race can make all the difference, whether you’re attacking, closing small gaps, or simply maintaining contact on smaller climbs when the w/kg increases. This workout helps get you there.
Workout 7: VO2 Nudges. Time to close it out strong. We’ll be repeating high-intensity VO2 intervals that’ll help you become more efficient at producing aerobic power, which will, in turn, improve your endurance and more.

Matt Rowe is an ex pro cyclist who’s raced all over Europe, became a European Champion on the track as a Junior in 2005, and is now a qualified coach with 11 years of experience. About Group Workouts on Zwift
These will be interval-based workouts, scaled to each rider's individual FTP, meaning that no matter your fitness level, you’ll receive world-class training tailored to meet the demands of finishing a Haute Route 3-day event.
Everyone who pedals together, stays together. Imagine an invisible “rubber band” that keeps the peloton tight—whether you’re producing massive watts or riding mellow. As long as you pedal, you’re part of the pack for the whole workout.
About the 2021 Haute Route Watopia
Haute Route made history by bringing the fast fun to Zwift with 2020 Haute Route Watopia. And now they’re doing it again. Say hello to the 2021 Haute Route Watopia. Three challenging stages in three days. February 26–28, 2021.
Stage 1 takes on 51km of Watopia’s Mega Pretzel, including the Epic KOM Reverse, and Watopia Hilly KOM, before finishing at the top of the Volcano Climb, with a total cumulative elevation of around 800m.
Stage 2 takes us to the top of the Epic KOM Reverse and is the longest stage at 53km. With around 1300m of climbing, you’ll need some serious next-level fitness to consolidate your position among the pack.
Stage 3 is the queen’s stage, with 1683m of cumulative elevation. Taking place on Watopia’s legendary Quatch Quest, this decisive 45.9km stage packs a considerable punch, finishing up at the infamous Alpe du Zwift.
