If you’re cycling for a social cause and looking for alternative ways to fundraise, using Zwift can help you move the needle and hit your goal. Here are three ways to jumpstart the giving train by riding in the great indoors.
HOST AN IN-HOME EVENT
Throw a party and invite friends to ride through Watopia – for a modest donation. It’s entertaining for all, and lets your people get a taste of the ride you’re about to embark on. A few minutes of tough training may compel them to dig deeper into their own pockets. This pay-to-pedal activity worked well for James Carroll, who raised $4,000 in total towards his Canadian National Kids Cancer Ride.
Tip: Put Zwift on the big screen, blast music and fans, and host a mini KOM competition over a selected section. With multiple trainers, you can hold head-to-head sprint races.
JOIN A ZWIFT CHARITY EVENT
This November we #RideWithReason, and Zwift is hosting events all month long in support of social causes. If you haven’t done a charity ride before, a group ride is a solid way to get started. Ride shoulder to shoulder with the world’s top pro cyclists, for some fitness and fundraising. We’re hosting group rides and workouts with Lotto Soudal pro cyclist André Greipel, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, and World Bicycle Relief.
THE DIY FUNDRAISER
The 500-mile Zwift ride for a social cause is admirable…but a really long effort in the trainer. As an alternative, you can also hold your own fundraiser and set the pace. Choose a reasonable goal – a century or 50-miler - and ask friends to pledge $1/mile. Or make it a group effort, and invite many friends to contribute to your cause. Launching your fundraiser with an online crowdfunding tool is a no-brainer. They make the donation process easy for everyone. Describe your event, promote it on social media, and get Zwifting. Share video/photos of the ride, and post your activity to show your completed efforts.
