DESCRIPCIÓN DEL EVENTO
This Friday - Stage 8 - LEMOND
Don't forget to tune in for our grand finale this Friday. For the final race, there is only one place we can go. You guessed it, we head to to Paris for one final race on Champs Élysées to end our brilliant tour. 🗼
Don't expect a soft pace and waving to the fans for a few laps drinking a glass of champagne. That can be done afterwards as course designer Leon Addie chose for a leg-burning ITT around the Champs-Élysées course. 🌶️😅
As you know our stage names have been linked to riders and their incredible efforts in the Tour de France. Our final stage is no different, as we have given it the name LeMond and a custom finish at 24,5km. Why this exact distance you might ask? 🤔
24,5km is the distance of the final ITT stage in the closest battle for the Tour de France in history. We go back to 1989 for the thrilling battle between Laurent Fignon and Greg LeMond. Fignon was winning the tour until the final stage with a lead of 50 seconds. At the start of the final stage LeMond came to the start with a futuristic looking aero helmet and handle bars, and managed to beat Fignon by 58 seconds, winning the Tour by a margin of just 8 seconds in the final race! 🤩
Let this be an inspiration for all of us that the race is not over until it's over. Bring your best gear to the start and go for it!
The custom finish will be the lead-in + 3 full laps + 1,6km adter the lap banner. I have measured this on the Zwift Insider website and concluded that the final finish will be somewhere uphill close to the Arc de Triomphe.
See you all on Friday!
