Prudential RideLondon Training With Dani Rowe: Week 12

About this Series

Welsh-born Dani Rowe is a former pro road cyclist and three-time world champion and Olympic gold medallist in the women’s team pursuit with Great Britain.

Each week she is sharing her story preparing for the 2019 Prudential RideLondon 100 using the “Prudential RideLondon 100” Zwift Training Plan. See her full list of stories, or learn more about Zwift’s Prudential RideLondon Training Plans

Being a full-time cyclist meant I couldn’t do things a lot of my friends did in their twenties. One example: music festivals. These are basically an athlete’s worst nightmare. Thousands of people, 30,000 steps a day, not much sleep, lots of alcohol, and not many healthy food options!

I had no regrets when I was competing, but it was something on my post-cycling bucket list I was really excited to tick off. I did this last week at the biggest music festival in the UK–Glastonbury! I had the time of my life but unfortunately, this meant I had a week off my bike and missed a week of the plan. Instead of worrying about it I’m now using my added motivation from the break to get back on it. I’m planning to complete every session this week which will really help me make up for what I missed last week when I was dancing to The Killers.

If like me you’ve missed a week of training, don’t try and catch up by doubling or overtraining the following week. Your body won’t be used to this added training stress. Just stick with the plan and complete as many sessions as possible.

It’s a super exciting week for Zwift with the start of the “Zwift Classics” races! I’m on my way to London to join the commentary team for the first women’s race on Wednesday. Additionally, I’m even more excited as we have entered a “Rowe & King” team into the series! I’m personally coaching Abby Mae Parkinson, a young up and coming rider with big ambitions for the future who rides for the women’s pro team Drops Cycling. I use Zwift racing for key parts of her training program as it’s perfect for unstructured high-intensity work. If you see her riding alongside you, or in a race, be sure to give her a ride on!

With less than a month to PRL, we are heading towards your final chance to make a difference to your form for 4th August.

I’ll be doing some live PRL session streams over the coming few weeks with my husband and coach, Matt Rowe. Keep an eye out for those in Zwift Companion. We will be sharing some advice on how to approach the final few weeks and some important tips for making sure you get around PRL in the best possible shape and enjoy your PRL experience as much as possible.
