A memorial tribute has been created on Zwift for Michael Lander, Red Beacon extraordinaire for over five years in the C group for BMTR's Flat 100 Event, who passed away suddenly last February at a far too young age. Just past hairpin number seven on the Alpe Du Zwift climb, large letters on the right side of the road read "BMTR LANDER."

We invite you to join us as we ride up the Alpe and pause for a minute of silence when we reach this tribute, before continuing to the top of the climb.

FOR THIS SPECIAL BMTR C CATEGORY EVENT, THERE WILL BE TWO YELLOW BEACONS MAINTAINING STEADY PACES, ONE AT 2.6 W/KG AND THE OTHER AT 2.2 W/KG.

How was this memorial tribute created? Michael's sister, Rebecca, reached out to Zwift’s James Bailey with the idea to "create a tribute within the game to honor Michael and keep his memory alive in the platform he cherished, and with the BMTR team he cared for deeply." James Bailey and the Zwift Product and Game Art team took on this meaningful request and made it happen. Many thanks to Rebecca, James, and the Zwift team!

"Michael's kindness, patience, and genuine care for every rider made everyone feel welcome. He wasn't just a sweep leader; he was the heart of our Saturday rides. His leadership wasn't about being in front; it was about making sure no one was left behind."
