ABOUT TEAM 7-ELEVEN

7-Eleven was formed as an amateur cycling team in 1981 and turned professional in 1985. After team members Ron Kiefel and Andy Hampsten won stages during the 1985 Giro, becoming the first American stage winners ever at a Grand Tour, 7-Eleven was invited to the 1986 Tour de France. In their debut Tour de France they shocked the European establishment when Alex Stieda scored the coveted yellow jersey on day 2. In 1988 team member Andy Hampsten became the first and only American to win the Giro d’Italia. 7-Eleven went on to become one of the major cycling teams for the next decade.
