EVENT-BESCHREIBUNG
Fartlek is Swedish for "speed play" which means we will be playing with our speed during the main 20 min set. Do you want to add some speed to your training, but want to avoid the usual, repititious 200m and 400m repeats? Well, then we have the event for you.
In this session, we will be running random intervals of 200, 400, and even 800m at paces that vary between 12kph (7.5mph) to 15kph (9.3mph). No two sessions will be alike, because it is the leader who will determine what happens.
The only thing structured about this 30 minute event is the time: 5 min warm up at 10kph (6.2mph), main 20 minute session with recovery pace between intervals at 10kph (6.2mph), and the 5 minute cool down. In general, the average pace during the main set will be 5min/km (8min/mile), but ultimately the group will dictate the pace. If everyone is keeping up, we will keep pushing the pace. If the group starts to slow, we will ease up.
If you fall behind, don't worry. The May Field track is a looped 400m course. Therefore you can simply perform the interval at your own pace and then lightly run or walk until the group catches. This is still a social event, so a sweeper (red beacon) will be available to help guide you back to the group.
