Zwift - Heffron Handicap
Tuesday Night Heffron is widely regarded as the hardest weekly handicap in Australia. The quality of riders, the technical course, the history and the handicap format make Tuesday Night Heffron the legendary race that it is. As the saying goes, “if you can win at Heffron, you can win anywhere”.
You know you’re famous when you’re referred to simply by the first name. Ventoux, d’Huez Stelvio – and then there’s Heffron. It’s raced in blistering sun, the rain and as anyone that has raced there would know, the gale-force winds.
The Easts Cycling Tuesday Night Heffron handicap is raced in the Daylight Savings times of October to March each year and with Covid-19 putting up restrictions, Season 37 will offer an online alternative – three grades full of weapons, flat-out racing for 30kms.
Like every Tuesday Night Heffron, expect a blistering start, followed by settling into an uncomfortably hard rhythm and watching the other grades in the last few minutes, hoping yours is the one that wins the night. Solo or mini break a few km’s from the line or an all-out sprint with 400m to go? That’s the age-old question that Heffron asks every race. The answer? Well, that changes too often to know. Win and you can say you’ve won Heffron – and know that if you win at Heffron, you can win anywhere. Get it wrong and all you’ll be left with are the “I could have won, if only” stories we tell our mates the next day. In the end, there can only be one.
The handicap format is like any Heffron – C-grade starts, B-grade chases and A-grade tries to catch everyone, with separate jerseys per grade so you can see who the real heroes in your grade are and maybe even the burglars!
