EVENT DESCRIPTION
Welcome to my ZSun BaseBuilder 2 ride! This is a long standing ride I have lead for many years. I have been Zwifting since the beta days. I find these kinds of rides my favorite and love to have good company while doing what I love, Riding! It attracts a lot of regulars and all new riders are welcome. This is a 100km event for most pens. The E pen may go shorter distances but the same routes. It is a very friendly chatty bunch and always willing to give out great advice or tips. This ride is intended to help build your base or maintain it. So you should be around your Zone 2. You can use it for a harder workout as well.
The leaders maintain a steady pace except the Up Up Ups and the downs. These are not races. If you want to ride faster join the faster pen. And if Pen D is still just a bit too fast for you. Don’t worry we will try to have sweepers for you. Ride as long as you can and try to find anyone else who has fallen off and group up with them. You will get stronger and each week you can hang on a little bit longer, til you are comfy riding in the pack.
Drafting is huge with rides like this. If you are out of the draft you will have to work extra hard, so stay focused and close the gaps down quickly. The fence may be turned on to keep the groups tight so you know if you are pulling away from the leader of the group. If a leader happens to not show up you all know what to do. Stay tight and communicate. And in addition for completing any of these rides you will receive the ZSUN Kit in your garage to wear anytime you like. “Red is Faster”
CATEGORIES HAVE CHANGED - We have added an additional faster Pen A this year. So if you are a returning rider used to the old categories they have changed.
Pen A - Lead by Husky Crone aka Sled Dog! The ride targets people who are looking to maintain an average pace of 3.3 w/kg. On short climbs we will usually stand and push to about 3.7 w/kg and on the downhills we relax and recover a bit at 3.0 w/kg. We try to stay together allowing us to move faster as a large pack.
Pen B - Lead by me Scott McVeigh aka Nanny! - The ride targets people who are looking to maintain an average pace of 2.7 w/kg. On short climbs we will usually stand and push to about 3.5 w/kg and on the downhills we relax and recover a bit at 2.5 w/kg. We try to stay together allowing us to move faster as a large pack.
Pen C - Lead by Pascal Gaudette! The ride targets people who are looking to maintain an average pace of 2.3 w/kg. On short climbs we will usually stand and push to about 3.0 w/kg and on the downhills we relax and recover a bit at 2.0 w/kg. We try to stay together allowing us to move faster as a large pack.
Pen D - Lead by David Green aka Green Goblin! The ride targets people who are looking to maintain an average pace of 1.8 w/kg. On short climbs we will usually stand and push to about 2.3 w/kg and on the downhills we relax and recover a bit at 1.5 w/kg.
Pen E - Lead by Chantale aka LaChef! The ride targets people who are looking to maintain an average pace of 1.4 w/kg. On short climbs we will usually stand and push to about 1.8 w/kg and on the downhills we relax and recover a bit at 1.1 w/kg. This Pen may be a shorter distance than the rest each week.
We have many additional leaders who may fill in at any time to help lead or Sweep: Allen Pelletier, Clemens Mo, Curtis Mayden, Luiperd Pretorius, Michael Zinc, Pascal Gaudette, Peter McKenzie, Richard Mann, Bison, Brent and Steve Magyar. So if you see any of them on the ride say hi to them, and if they give instructions treat them as if they were coming from the ride leader themselves. These groups can get very large and it helps to have a few sets of eyes. And if any of you would like to become a leader or sweeper just let me or one of the leaders know.
Please Join us on Discord. It really makes the ride so much better to be able to talk to all of you. Even if you don’t want to talk you can listen in to the conversations. I may even sign bait. If you want to call it that.
