TRI247 WORKOUT SERIES
Every Wednesday at 7pm GMT, Tri247 present a triathlon focused workout brought to you by a guest 'coach.' This will include sessions by pro triathletes, coaches and notable characters associated with the sport.
The workouts are about 60 minutes long and designed to add variety and interest to your weekly training schedule over the Winter.
THE SESSION
This weeks session is a tough, “bread and butter” session as used by tonight’s ride leader, Gill Fullen. The set is prescribed by her coach, Perry Agass (https://www.trisutto.com/en/teams/ete-racing/users/perry-agassOpens a new window).
The workout is simple in structure – but may prove a little tougher to ride – comprising of a full hour of “two minutes hard, one minute easy”.
The efforts should be completed with a low cadence to build resistance, strength and resilience. Expect the first few reps to feel relatively comfortable… but be warned, the ‘Lactic Legs’ name of this session is there for a reason. You’ll need to mentally strong – but together, we’ll all make it through to the end.
WORKOUT DESIGNER
This week’s ride leader is Gill Fullen, one of the most consistently successful Age-Group athletes in the world. A former winner of the British Triathlon Age-Group Athlete of the Year award, Gill has won multiple European and World Championship titles at Duathlon, Powerman, Long Distance Triathlon, IRONMAN 70.3 – in most cases, several times each.
Despite moving into the 55-59 category for the 2019 season, Gill is showing no signs of slowing down and is still competitive, overall, in most races that she enters.
Not even serious illness and major surgery has been able to stop her. In 2016 Gill was diagnosed with cancer and after chemotherapy and major surgery, she returned to competition in 2017 and has since added further European and World Championship titles to her C.V. and won the iron-distance Outlaw Triathlon in the U.K – OVERALL (!) – in a course record time of 9:44, aged 53.

ABOUT GROUP WORKOUTS
Zwifters line up in the starting area just like a normal event and once the event starts, workout mode begins. Everyone stays together regardless of power output. That's right, if you're outputting 100W and another Zwifter is outputting 400W you will stay in exactly the same position relative to each other. Only if you stop pedaling and fall 6 meters behind the group will the rubber-banding stop.
HELPFUL HINT
We highly recommend doing one of the FTP tests as the estimated FTP can be inaccurate and make the difficulty level of the workouts too high for your current fitness level.
