TRI247 WORKOUT SERIES

Every Wednesday at 7pm GMT, Tri247 present a triathlon focused workout brought to you by a guest 'coach.' This will include sessions by pro triathletes, coaches and notable characters associated with the sport.

The workouts are about 60 minutes long and designed to add variety and interest to your weekly training schedule over the Winter.

THE SESSION

This workout is inspired by the Club Relays, a 4-person event which has been part of the fabric of the UK Triathlon scene for almost three decades. With the event – another sell out – coming up on Saturday, it seemed appropriate to base a session connected to it. The ‘Madness’ element of the name comes from the tagline of the race, which is organised chaos…

The workout includes four sets, within each one you increase the effort from Tempo, through to Threshold and then (briefly) into VO2 Max, before a short recovery. Repeat four times - one each to represent each team member in the virtual relay team!

WORKOUT DESIGNER

This week’s session is set by TRI247 Editor, John Levison. John will be one of the one-site commentary team again for the Club Relays in Nottingham, and event he first race while a student around 25 years ago. These days he is Team Manager for a large contingent (17 teams!) from his own club, and enjoys the racing in Nottingham from the sidelines, in the company of a microphone, calling the action…

ABOUT GROUP WORKOUTS

Zwifters line up in the starting area just like a normal event and once the event starts, workout mode begins. Everyone stays together regardless of power output. That's right, if you're outputting 100W and another Zwifter is outputting 400W you will stay in exactly the same position relative to each other. Only if you stop pedaling and fall 6 meters behind the group will the rubber-banding stop.

HELPFUL HINT

We highly recommend doing one of the FTP tests as the estimated FTP can be inaccurate and make the difficulty level of the workouts too high for your current fitness level.
