Zwift With Reason

Zwift With Reason

ON 2020年3月31日 by Zwift

Since our early days, we’ve supported charitable causes to elevate people and communities around the world. It’s in our DNA.

Collectively, we call our charity initiatives Zwift with Reason. It’s our commitment to supporting charitable causes through the power of sport. By engaging our community of cyclists, runners, and triathletes to actively participate – their collective efforts on Zwift unlock donations for various charities and non-profit organizations. As if the sport endorphins weren’t enough, it’s a way to further feel good about your activity on Zwift!

Want to learn more about our past Zwift with Reason work and charity partnerships? Below you’ll find a selection of some of our charity collaborations!

Zwift with Reason Initiatives

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity
(November 2018, April 2020)

Every day, 619 children and young people from across the UK arrive at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Charity for life-changing treatments.

Our November 2018 mission asked riders and runners to burn 1,000 calories in Zwift over the week. Once 25,000 Zwifters completed this challenge, we unlocked a donation to support GOSH. In April 2020, runners will be prompted to run at least 4 hours during the month, contributing to the community goal of 18,000 running hours to unlock another donation to GOSH.

André Greipel’s Fight ALS Challenge
(November 2017, February 2019, February 2020)

André Greipel is a World Tour pro cyclist whose mother passed away due to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Since 2017, Zwifters have taken the opportunity to ride with André and other World Tour pros to raise both awareness and funds that accelerate research to combat ALS.

Our collaboration in February 2020 resulted in the largest Zwift group ride to date, with over 7800 participants!

World Bicycle Relief
(December 2015-2018, June 2019)

World Bicycle Relief (WBR) delivers specially designed, locally assembled, rugged bicycles for people in need. These WBR “Buffalo bikes” empower students, health workers, and entrepreneurs in rural developing regions with life-changing mobility.

WBR was one of our earliest charity partners, and our four “Ride On for World Bicycle Relief” rideathon events raised enough funds to purchase over 2700 Buffalo bikes!

(July 2016, November 2017-2018)

Qhubeka is dedicated to advancing education, health, and economic opportunities by providing simple, sustainable transportation with bicycles.

We have collaborated with Qhubeka on multiple fundraising initiatives including a group workout series and “training camp” group rides. In November 2018 we swapped out the Ride On thumb for the Qhubeka High Five in all group rides, calling Zwifters to complete two events during a week to unlock an in-game cycling cap. Once 25,000 Zwifters completed this challenge, we donated 500 bikes to Qhubeka.

Movember (November 2019)

Zwift’s Movember 9.9 Mission called all Zwifters to ride or run 9.9 hours in November in support of the 9.9 million fathers, brothers, husbands, friends, and coworkers living with prostate cancer. Once 10,000 Zwifters finished the mission we donated to the Movember charity in support of their efforts to further prostate cancer research.

Pride On (June 2019)

In June 2019, we celebrated our first LGBTQ Pride Month with our Pride On series of group rides. Zwifters rained down the rainbow “Pride On” thumbs during these events, and we put our money behind that support with a donation to Athlete Ally, an organization dedicated to the belief that everyone should have equal access, opportunity, and experience in sports — regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Climb for Costa (November 2018)

Adrien Costa was one of America’s rising cycling stars when a rock climbing accident forced the amputation of his right leg above the knee. Zwifters were challenged to climb 400 meters over the course of one week in November to unlock special in-game cycling shoes, and once 25,000 Zwifters completed the challenge we unlocked a donation to support medical care and rehab for Adrien Costa.
